Tagenarine Chanderpaul is looking to follow in his father’s footsteps

West Indies veteran batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s son Tagenarine has made his first-class debut at the age of 16 for Guyana, which is two years earlier than when his father did.

The 16-year-old did not have the best of debuts, scoring 13 and 32 in a regional four-day match against the Leeward Islands.

Chanderpaul is an opening batsman, unlike his father who is a middle order batsman, but is supposed to be capable of spending hours at the crease, which is exactly what his father is has done numerous times throughout his international career.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul made his debut for Guyana at the age of 18 and missed his son’s first game since he was representing the Sylhet Royals in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The four-day regional tournament has been dominated by Jamaica over the past five years, while Guyana last won the title in the 1997-1998 season.
